Thanks Carl. I still am in the hospital. It seems that when the surgical
prep team placed the trachea tubes, they scraped my throat, causing a "seep
or bleed" (their words) my hemoglobin numbers took a nose dive, so they
kept me another day. They are doing frequent blood draws and monitoring. If
they get too low, they might have to do some cauterizing. They just now
drew more blood, so I should know soon. This old age stuff ain't for
sissies.
You are right about my father in law, one of the great ones. Look up
CHOSIN Resevoir on google.

folks. They are a good bunch.
My father in law was in Okinawa for some of those Japanese welcome
ashore engagements as well as several other islands during WW II. He rarely
ever spoke about them. He had an incredible sense of patriotism and
obligation to Country. He called it paying for freedom.

Finally home yesterday at 6:28 p.m. Traffic was difficult to describe.
Range: 50 miles or so. Travel time, not quite 3 hours. All of it on
Superhighways. Almost no trucks. All cars and brown box vans. FedEx too.
Heart is working well, so far. Home made Beef and Barley soup at a real
table, with my wife. Thankful does not begin to describe my blessings on
this Thanksgiving Day. Hope all of you spend this day with family and
friends and food and football.

Finally home yesterday at 6:28 p.m. Traffic was difficult to describe.

I'm very glad to hear you are back home, Jim. Home made soup definitely surpasses hospital food of any sort! Baby steps - fastest way to the top of
the stairs is one step at a time.

Less invasive procedure. Hmmm? Relative term. When they removed the
sutures, it started bleeding. They scurried around like a bunch of
meercats. One applied direct pressure, one grabbed a syringe full of
something that stung like hell. No going home that night. But all good now.

Yeah, Jim, "less invasive" is what he says he's going to do to me on
Thursday: Little holes above, below, and outside of my chest, with a 1"
one at the center through which he'll extract the lung lobe! Glad I'll be
sound asleep for the whole thing! :-)

Ken, I'm home now. Made a quick run back n forth to Portland's airport to
pick up step-daughter this morning. Light traffic. Headed out for the
funeral home to set up the viewing for Judy's dad. 100 year old marine
corps vet. Funeral tomorrow. Good luck tomorrow. Keep us posted.
