Age" restriction on coaches

Good morning all. I have to attend a week long workshop in Victoria BC and have found a lovely place right on Victoria harbour, and after 3 days of
sorting out do they have a spot, I am now informed that they don't accept RV's older than 10 years. Has anyone ever managed to wiggle your way around
that? I replied with a description of the updates (basically everything except the kitchen sink - literally!) and a couple of pictures.

During the writing of this post, I received a reply. They are OK with the coach! So I have my site. I guess it pays to educate!

There has been discussion about this topic here before. Some have said they fudge the numbers a little (a lot in some cases) by using the year of the
last major upgrade as the year of the coach. I don't think they would go along with that in most cases. For instance, my coach has a new engine and
transmission as of about this time last year making it a 2018???. I don't think so!

I think you used the right approach by sending them photos and a description of the coach. We have done the same on occasion and when we got there,
have found way older then ten year old motorhomes at the park that were not in very good condition, and certainly not as nice looking as our GMC.

I've been at a few places that had such "rules" and haven't had issues! Having said that - others have told me to just add 30 or 35 years to your coach's year and they'd never know (if your coach looks great). Most people have to ask me two or three times for my model year, because they don't believe it's over 40 years old. My license plate tends to make lying hard...

At one of the places with limits like that - I sheepishly said "1976" and they looked outside and then came out and took pictures. So - it's hard to say how they'd react without seeing it... I think most of the places just want to avoid a Christmas Vacation situation and fluid stains...

Usually if clean and shiny and not loud/smoking it is not an issue. It does make it a pain when trying to plan as you are compared to just
overnighting.

We did get a site. Booking for June and I got the last site! They book a year in advance (I'll know that for the next workshop!). That's the
problem when you have to book in advance - you either lie about the age of your coach or tell the truth and then have to wheedle! But wheeling often
works. It did here. :]

I totally understand the rule. I don't want to be camped out next to a pile of rust that someone is selling meth out of any more than the guys in the
1,000,000 dollar prevost does.

Most places are reasonable if you show them a photo, we haven't had any problems and the GMC gets more attention than the mega busses once we're
there.

We too have run into that. Then they look out, and see it. Then we've got in. Most have been the pricy ones. But in truth. We stay in extremely few camp grounds to start with. Bob Dunahugh

My experience was my GMC was ok as it looked new but my golden retriever dog was more then 30 pounds so no go.

I'm a Dog Person,so I don't deal with camps that have size or breed restrictions. I realize these things are asked for by some inshoance
underwriters. Which was 'splained to me by some guy who ran a camp. I 'splained to him, there are underwriters who know better than to be breed
specific, he should find one, and we'll then do binniss.
I've no problem with rules excluding aggressive dogs - individually. Anyone who ever met the Boone's Rottie boy will understand - he has yet to meet
a stranger, the (docked) tail never stops. But, were some campgrounds to see him, they'd be tossed because of his breed. I've no patience with folks
who think they're all bad because one was of there's a poor perception by breed. We tried it with people a couple hundred years ago, it didn't work
then either.

Book it under 2019 Newell or similar. Then show uo in your GMC and tell them "sorry but the new coach had computer/electrical gremlins the dealer is
having a hard time sorting out "so you btought your dependable coach since you were already booked.

They need to have simple rules, so that year limitation was selected.
I try not to bring out my Rice cooker and Chop Sticks and start cooking on
the outside table.
That can be worse than a 100 lbs dog.

One of the simple rules would be that anybody who books a campsite A YEAR IN ADVANCE (many are already booked year-round a year in advance) is most
likely not going to show up in a derelict coach. Anything's possible, but just discriminating by year is not a good way to screen your RV customers.
Guess it works for the quick overnight travelers and transients, but they should be getting a pass/fail based on instant observation and other factors
anyway (by intelligent personnel), not just subject to a rigid cutoff based on year manufactured.

In many privately owned campgrounds along the Interstate 5 corridor, as
many as 75 % of the sites are rented by the month to more or less permanent
residents. Permanent electric meters, 100 gallon propane tanks,
mini-vegetable gardens, cabanas, etc. More or less year round. Many of them
are big 5th wheels, older 45 foot Diesel pushers. Not much attention is
paid to the 10 year old rule from my standpoint.

AGE DISCRIMINATION!!! Can't that cry be used in today's environment?

This avoids that personal confrontation though.
It's much easier to tell someone face to face that you don't allow anything over 10 years old than it is to say "sorry your RV is a piece of junk, and
you look sketchy so we are not going to allow you to camp here"
