For those of us without bottomless pockets, I have
found that Walmart now offers the Goodyear Workhorse
tire for 77.00 each.
That is the standard 875x16.5 with an "E" rating
(also avail in 875x16). "D" rating is $73.00.
I have over 25,000 miles on my "E" Workhorses now with
excellant results. I have NOT rotated my tires as
all 6 have worn evenly. I still have over 60% of
the tread depth left. I average about 1500 miles per
month on my GMC. My workhorses were recommended by
my local GY dealer who uses them on his sob. My cost
in 1997 was a flat $600 installed w/ taxes.
I am not trying to compare tires, just pass on my
experiences which have been excellant. I keep my
tires at 70 psi and have bag lifters on the rear
which seams to soften the ride a little.

Darren,
Welcome aboard! I agree with your assessment of the
advantages of big
rubber. FWIW, although my 9.50R16.5's DO touch the airbags when
said bags
are TOTALLY deflated, they DO NOT touch the wheel wells under
any
conditions. Ditto for fronts.
Happy trails!
