Just a quick reminder, the "from" header in your email must match the
email address that you're subscribed under or majordomo will "bounce"
your postings to me. This is mainly applicable to those of you with
multiple email accounts or those using email forwarding. If I have time
when I receive these bounces, I will forward them to the list. If I
don't have time, they go in the bit bin.

If you're having problems with posts that don't show up. Check your
headers.

Patrick:

Aren't the headers generated automatically, with no chance to edit
them??

If so, does that mean those with additional e-mail address's are out-of
luck?

Many of the headers are generated automatically by the mailer, but
others(most obvious are "To" and "Subject") are controlled by the user.
The "From" header is usually set in some "Options" or "Preferences"
menu. For Netscape 3.01, click on "Options", "Mail and News
Preferences", "Identity" and you'll see entries for "Your Name" and
"Your Email" which set the "From" header. Some programs, such as the
Free Agent newsreader that I use, actually allow you to set headers "on
the fly" for each individual message - overriding the preset defaults.

Sometimes these settings are difficult to find for new users, especially
since most windows programs "walk you through" the setup process.

Hope this makes it a little clearer!

While dwelling on this issue recently, I remembered that Eudora Pro has
a "personality" feature which manages multiple email address by
automatically selecting the correct headers. I've never used the "Pro"
version, but I do use Eudora Light for one account. Those of you with
multiple accounts might want to consider it. I think the URL is
http://www.eudora.com.
