GMCnet has a 7,000 character limit on message size(length). There are a
couple reasons for this. First, it (usually) prevents digest
subscribers from quoting the entire digest when they reply to the list.
Second, if your email is over 7,000 characters, it's probably too long.
These messages bounce to me and often I trim them down and send them
back. If I'm too busy, I don't. Often these "bounces" could have been
prevented if the "quoted" part of the message had been trimmed.
Please trim your replies! Some subscribers have long signatures
attached to their email. This is fine, but there's no need to quote a
signature no matter how clever it is. Often, there's no need to quote
the message you're replying to. If you're replying to several separate
points in the post, quote each point individually with your reply after
the quote. If you make your entire reply before or after the whole
message, most likely you didn't need to quote any of it.
Also, please try to remember to change the "subject" line when the
thread morphs. I think we've been doing better with this, but it was
mentioned to me at Marion.
Always take a moment to "proof" what you've written, trim you quotes and
be sure the subject line is correct. These problems are common to all
email lists and we'll never be rid of them. Lets just try to cut down
on them.
Thanks!
