Every mail list that I have ever belonged to goes through this "problem"
from time to time. The fact is that folks who were among the first to sign
up see the same issues cropping up time and time again. Sometimes it
happens because folks are new and haven't read the archives (there's a LOT
of them now). Sometimes folks slip a gear. Sometimes there's a new
perspective.
Tom's initial posting about tires and his experience witha blow out can be
read on my web site at http://www.henry-davis.com/GMC/Tireinfo.htm
Patrick's right on the money with his offer to host the tire info (I'll put
it up as well if that's OK).
Most mail lists have periodically posted FAQs to answer these types of
repeated questions. Maybe it's worth a weekly or every other week posting
to the list with the urls of GMC info. Many other lists don't have the
degree of personal commitment that some GMC owners have demonstrated in
offering free web sites with important information - those other less
fortunate groups repost the FAQs every few weeks.
I run my G159s at 80psi - that's what it takes to handle the load of my GMC
according to Goodyear. Maybe someone else's tires have a different
inflation recommendation.
In Goodyear's double blind tests with professional drivers, drivers who
were told that they were driving lower pressure tires felt that the ride
was smoother REGARDLESS of the actual inflation pressure.
All tire manufacturers are in agreement that underinflation will lead to
premature tire failure, lower fuel economy, etc
Drive enough miles and you'll have a tire failure. Underinflate and it'll
be sooner rather than later. Same goes for significant overinflation. Want
to determine the exact right tire pressure for your coach? Weigh each wheel
and then use the loading chart from teh manufacturer of your tires to
determine the working pressure.
