Acceptable Tire Sizes

First, let me say I am a GMC newbie (3 months..76 Transmode 230) & a
"Lurker." I would like to thank Patrick & all the contributors for the
wealth of information I have gleaned from GMC.net.
I am installing Alcoa wheels & new tires. I would like to use
P265/75R16s, but am concerned about clearance. Anybody have any firsthand
experience with these? Or should I stick with P245s? I like the look of
the bigger tires.
I will probably go with Michelins, as they are "rounder." I talked to a
tire man here in Tulsa
who does tire truing, & he said truing is a costly, ugly thing & that most
people are not happy with the results, so I wish to avoid this if possible.

Now you've done it. You'll see.

Seriously. Truing works. Any one who has had it done will tell you that.
The oversize tires are not a problem. They may interfere with your t-skirts and
air bags when the bags are totally deflated, but you won't be driving then any
how. Michelins or Bridgestone or Firestone or Goodyear or Goodrich....
Doesn't matter. Pick what you are comfortable with. Michelin does not have a
great track record with some people in this group. Bridgestone is liked but
only certain types. Lots of info and discussion may follow. I am sure it will.

i THINK YOU WILL HAVE CLEARANCE TROUBLES WITH ANYTHING OVER 225 HOWEVER AT
LEAST ONE GMC-NETTER IS RUNNING 235 AND SAYS ALL IS OK EXCEPT WHEN BAGS ARE
DOWN. AS FOR ME, I DON'T WANT ANY CLEARANCE PROBLEMS, BAGS UP OR BAGS DOWN.

I am using 235's and the clearance is a problem. However, when I look at the
width, the size and get all warm and fuzzy thinking what a great big footprint I
have and how much safer I feel. Whether that is perception or fact, I cant tell
you... I just like the look, feel and ride.
