I am in the process of installing the Howell EFI and electronic Dist. My EBL does not have a USB connection. How does one connect a laptop to the
EBL?

Thanks,
Tom K.

Does your tablet have a mini USB port? If so, you can get an adapter from
mini to regular. If your mini USB is being used to charge your tablet then
I think you can get an adapter to allow charging and other USB ports. I
have heard people say they have had trouble getting it to work reliably.

Tom,
Does your EBL have https://www.dynamicefi.com/EBL_Flash_Install.php

If so, it should have come with the USB adapter cable. Call the vendor (Applied or Dynamic EFI).

Thank you Randy,

I think I will to have a dedicated tablet of some sort and keep it permanently mounted. I am just running the harness now and did not see the USB on
the EBL or harness. Do I have to make the USB connection? The EBL does say "Whats Up Display" and a date. So that is good news. I am looking to run a
data wire of some sort to the dash area.

Thanks again,
Tom K.

EBL changed from an RS232 serial connection to a USB connection around 2018. The USB cable has a stereo style 1/8" plug on one end that plugs into a
female connector on the wiring harness.

The previous RS232 cable had a modular cable that plugged in to the EBL.

You may need to add the female connector to your wiring harness for the newer USB cable. Here is a page that shows how:

The new EBL is not USB, it is still TTL level serial and has to be translated to USB using an adapter
The change was to move the IO to use free pins on the connector

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. If you do not have a USB on your EBL, then you should have a telephone cable from the EBL to a Serial
connector. If you have this cabling, then you need a Serial to USB connector. I have used this one with very good success:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00425S1H8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you do not have the telephone cable connector (RJ46) to Serial connector which you should have received with your EBL system, then you should
contact where you got your EBL system from to get the necessary connector. Make sure you use a 4-wire telephone cable.

If your EBL box does not have a telephone port (RJ46) then you have a system manufactured sometime after 2018. With this system, there should be a
cable that has pins for 3 wires to attach to the data cable connectors (Blue) on the back of the EBL box. This cable has an Audio type connector that
should have a USB connector on the other end. If you don't have these cables then contact your supplier.

I must have been sleeping in class when this happened. I didn't know about the change. I am wondering what else I missed since I installed my EBL
over 10 years ago.
