A note of remembrance

First met Dan at Berrien. He started chatting with me like we were old friends. Gone way too soon.

Cancer does not care who it affects. (All of us) Dan was a tough fighter,
he had the support of Teri and a caring family of GMC owners. But, in the
end, the disease prevailed.
I lost a 54 year old step daughter on Valentines Day, last year.
Tough as nails, a valiant fighter, determined to beat the big "C", but, to
no avail.
Dwayne Jacobson, my brother from another mother, Brilliant mind,
multitasker, loyal, best friend ever. And the list goes on.
Do we wish that a cure is possible? Me, more than a lot of people.
All we have are our memories. Hang on to them tightly. Enjoy our
health while we have it. Never miss an opportunity to gather with friends
and family. Treat each other with respect, help each other when we need it.
Life is short. Eat dessert first.

Man I used to have huge fun with Dan on Email and phone. He was a good guy and I miss him. I remember when he told of the electric dump valve stuck
closed. Bunch of people standing around telling him what to do while he was underneath at the valve. He got them to be quiet step away quickly when he
said "It's about to open or break off!". I'm glad he got to retire early and enjoy that time.

Not sure how you figure my error - I will be 78 on 4/17/2018 - I think that makes me one day older than you.
There seems to be 2 Mike K's here - I am:
Mike Kelley/The Corvair a holic
76 Glenbrook 28' stretch
76 Eleganza II 26'
Peoria, IL.
I can relate - on Oct of 62 I ordered a new 63 Monza Coupe, 102 HP, 4 speed, paid $2,243.00 - she was a Gr8 little ride - traded her in 66 for a 65 Chevy 2 door super sport as my family had outgrown the small car.
No Corvairs till 2013 when I started collecting a few - now own 13 of the little darlings.
BTW - no worries if you get a late model as in 65 they switched to independent suspension - no roll over or handling issues - they handle as good as a Corvette.
So, you are wanting a late model (65 - 69) Corvair. Convert, Coupe, or 4 Dr model? Automatic or 4 speed?

Oops, EmEry, not EmOry... sorry 'bout that.
For the Corvair freaks, I had a '65 500 club coupe. Biggest piece of junk I've ever owned, although it was a nice handling little car. Everything
on it fell off in the time I had it - transmission, exhaust rocker failure every 3-4K miles, etc, etc. Yall can have them.
Incidentally, is Mike Phillips out of Tulsa still active nationally as a Corvair freak? He had a two-way radio shop and got about half rich selling
and maintaining radios in the oil fields. He offered me a completely restored convertible ('66 maybe) for a 'gimme' price but I still had a bad taste
over the first one I owned so I passed on it.

To All,

Thanks you for reminding me also. I had great times with Teri and Dan and the conventions. He was always running around in his VW and Teri was GeoCashing. Great memories, great people!

Happy Birthday to you Emory! I never say older, we are just getting more mature. The big 73 comes up in June

I never had the privilege of meeting Dan in person, however, we exchanged
numerous emails.dealing with our GMC interests but more notably about our
careers. Dan had been and was again a probation officer and I am a retired
public defender. We shared many stories and shared our views of the
criminal justice system. Though our backgrounds differed we agreed about
many things. I truly miss our email "conversations" but more to the point
miss Dan. RIP.

Never met Dan (Nor, most of anyone on the Forum during my short time as an owner) but, his posts "radiated positive". Always kinda' surprised me
'cause the kind of work he did (around the "justice" system) could make one pretty cynical.

FWIW: Prefer to be around "positive" people even though I'm not-enough-that-way myself.

OP: thank for bringing up that consequential memory.

For those considering attending, it will be in 30 years but I will get back
to all y'all ( Roger Black speak) about accommodations on both an
individual and personal basis. Such things as bibs, and walkers will be
assigned if required, as well as a collection of eye wear and hearing aids
at the door for general usage.

It will likely start around 2 and conclude by 5 so you can be wheeled home
for an early bedtime having missed your naps.
Since there is unlikely anyone who will be there from this group, I'll hold
off on the MC and naming guest speakers...lol

Enjoy what you have of your health and your GMC's today...don't wait for
next year. As Lorraine keeps sayin' to me , "If not now, When? "

Emery, you're still a boy...Happy Birthday !

Both Grace and I had the privalede of getting aquainted with Terri and Dan
as I hired Dan to help us at all the International convention at our booth.
We also drove to conventions and had several laughs as we drive diffently.
