A different perspective

We are in central Montana on our way to Gillitte, WY for the FMCA International rally with a slight detour on the way to see our granddaughter in Boulder, CO. While in a rest area I stopped by a VFW table to give them some money. They asked where we were headed. I told them Gillette, WY. He said, oh that’s not very far, just 500 miles or so as though that represented an easy afternoon romp. I guess when you live in central MT distance means something different from those who live elsewhere!

The other factor out that way are the speed limits. traveling 500 miles doing 85MPH, takes less time then driving at 55-65.

I drove my GMC out to South dakota a few weeks ago, and broke the trip into two days. I then drove the next week almost the same distance in my
2017 ford F-150 work truck. I drove out there and back in 2 days.

After we bought our GMC in January 2005 and Bob made it roadworthy, we left
July 1 on our maiden voyage to Alaska. We drove the 3,765 miles to Tok in
8 days averaging 470 miles per day. The good old days!

We've slowed down since then.

Living in NV for 40 years tends to make driving long distances the norm. We once drove our RV from Savannah,GA to Las Vegas (2200+ miles) in two days
with only one stop to fuel and sleep. 190 gallons of fuel gives you really long legs at 9 mpg. Running from LV to Eugene was a 'normal' one day affair
at 1000+ miles in the rig. When you're working for a living the quicker you can get there the longer you have to recreate after you arrive. It's been
a real chore to break with the old marathon runs since retirement but I'm trying.
