Hi all,

The world works in mysterious ways when we get out of the way and just let things happen. For some time Sharon and I have been talking about going back on the road again part time for a year or two (we full timed for four years in a Beaver Patriot back around the turn of the century). In order to do so, we would need a coach much bigger than either of our two GMCs.

While at FMCA in Chandler, AZ, we happened onto a wonderful looking, 1997 Country Coach Prevost with just 100k miles, eight new Michelin tires, a glass cockpit, all new 8d AGM batteries and a 17.5kw diesel generator with only 400 hours in a nearly silent compartment. It looks and drives much younger than the age would imply.

Long story short, we purchased that coach for our "semi-full timing" adventures. Also while on this snowbird trip we came across a couple from Alaska in a bus conversion they did themselves who went ga-ga over the Clasco. They purchased the Clasco yesterday so we are back to two coaches, but this time the Prevost and the Royale instead of the Royale and the Clasco.

We plan on remaining active in all the GMC clubs and the GMC forum so look forward to seeing you all somewhere on the road for as long as we decide to continue with the "semi-full timing". The Royale is not likely to get a whole lot of use for a while but we will take it to the Cascader covered bridge rolling rally and perhaps some others this summer before we for the road likely around late fall.

Being a 97 it probably has one or two nice sized slides. Can't go wrong with a Country Coach they are well built nice coaches but a lot more
complicated then your GMC. That extra room sure makes long term camping more fun. You forgot to post a picture we are waiting.

Have a good friend out of Eugene that has owned/sold quite a few and has connections with some of the old employees of CC. Some of the systems were a
bit unique and it's great to have someone to go to in a pinch. Actually, I think my friend has a 97 for sale right now. If you have the need for
information let me know and I can arrange to get you two together.
BTW is it an IFS?

I love those older stainless trim on the bottom Prevosts. They were having a Country Coach rally at LazyDays in Tampa the week before we were there
this year.

I expect it looks like this?

One of the GMC Sunshine statesmen (Mel Woods)has one of similar vintage. No slides but the interior finish and quality is beyond stunning and there
is plenty of room for a couple.

Hi Hal,

Yes, this 97 Prevost has IFS and a lifting tag so has a tight turning radius. It turns nearly as tight a corner as the Fiat Abarth and it is only 12' long! I would like to be in contact with your friend, thanks.

We looked at doing that 'on the cheap' and I found a GM 4106 with a rebuild and a new clutch. Older conversion, but everything in good shape
including new tyres for 11K arguing price. It looks to need paint, although compound on a small spot showed it could be buffed out... and dead paint
really doesn't concern me greatly. So saturday the Septic Tank Guy came by and cleared the jam and the cleanout ran backwards from the tank.... so
the bus money goes to a new septic system instead. I looked at it and cranked it. Genset works fine, engine runs smooth, everything was as
represented in the ad. If you're cheap, looking for something bigger, and understand how to run a Spicer transmission, this is appealing:

A zillion bux of invoices from the original owner over the years as well.

If you are concerned about fuel consumption, you miss the whole point of
"Conspicuous Consumption" and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and the
"By golly, I've worked my butt off all my life to get where I am now, and I
am going to enjoy fully the fruits of my labors." all completely
indefensible to 99% of the world, but it makes sense to those of us who are
in similar positions.
I make no apology to anyone, I went without, sacrificed material
possessions to gain retirement benefits, and now, in the few years that I
have left, fully intend to enjoy the hell out of it. Selfish attitude you
say, I should share what I have with those less fortunate? Well, Nancy P.
don't choke on that filet, while you are
bitching about how much money the American Farmer makes. (Rant off)

Not that much different then the GMC. I have a friend that has a 43 ft American Eagle he averages 7-8 mpg with a 450 hp engine and a 1/2 ton ford
pickup in tow. When I was towing a small pu behind my GMC it averaged less then 7 in varied terrain.

Why didn't I expect anything else...

@Rob: I expect as much, but wasn't sure about the vocabulary.

@Jim Hupy: Not concerned, just curious.

Peer, I wasn't trying to be offensive towards you. I was being insensitive
and obnoxious. What some Europeans call the "Ugly American's". A deserved
opinion. I plead guilty. But, I don't apologize for it. I have NEVER drawn
unemployment benefits or welfare. Don't even know how to file for it.
During my entire working career, I was without gainful employment for 3
days. That was a span of over 60 years. Worked many days for less than
$1.00 American. Eventually, that tide turned. A few years I had income over
1 million, gross. Now, I approach 77 years of age. I will enjoy what time I
have remaining.
Just the way it is.

Jim,
> Peer, I wasn't trying to be offensive towards you

I didn't feel any attack either :)

And I can more than relate to your points. Please do enjoy. My parents
told me and my brother when we were young: Don't expect an inheritance.
And I don't. And worked accordingly. I hope that my parents will enjoy
every penny that they have for there own benefit, instead of saving for
the after world.

There was absolutely no need to apologize. I am good :)

Our 45' Eagle bus conversion has averaged right at 9 mpg over the 100,000 miles since I built it and I keep track by both the ECM and by long hand. It
weighs 43,000 lbs, has a 14ltr Series 60 making over 600 Hp and 2000 lbs of tq. There's no a/c on the roof and its smooth sided-not even rivets show.
I also put a full belly pan on it which helps but it's still a brick. With a 6 sp world double overdrive trans and a 4.10 gear set it loafs along at
62 mph at about 1400 rpm. Even at that low rpm it takes quite a hill to pull it down into 5th gear. It really is close to the economy of the gas GMC
but other maintenance items aren't in the same ball park. For the price of one of the 8 tires and can just about buy a whole set for the GMC.
They are all fun though, no matter what you drive.
