I am in the middle of some a/c modifications. I started off by reading:
http://www.gmcws.org/tech.htm - Seperating Hot form Cold. At first everything
wasn't clear (still not totally clear, but clearer).
I have a later 73 Sequoia with the re-circ door. If you open your front access
doors you'll see the a/c heater unit right in the middle.
Facing the coach, in the upper left hand side of the a/c heater box will be an
opening. This lets fresh air in. When you switch to recirc mode there
is a door behind this opening which swings up. This creates an opening from
inside the cab area (down by floorboards, center) which pulls
air in from the cab. This slot is about 20 inches wide but only about 5 inches
gets opened. From outside the front of the coach you may be able to see
this flap swing up. One of the mods is to block off the fresh air opening so
that no fresh (hot) air gets mixed with the cool cab air. Someone else
I believe cut a hole behind the heater core so cool air now goes directly into
the cab form the a/c heater box. I also plan on adding the little diverter
piece to help the air flow in the a/c heater box. All my door flaps seem to
close fully. I am just going to seal everythng up good. I'm a little worried
about
keeping the inside cool. My overhead air will put out 60'F air out of the vent
with outside temps in the 90's. I have been told this is as good
as it gets. My dash air puts out in the low 50's.
