I read about modifying an existing caliper assembly to allow it to be
fitted to GMC.
My questions
1. What is application for this caliper or
2. What is apart number and manufacturer for this caliper.
3. What is application or part number for brake hose to work withis caliper?
4. What is diameter of original caliper piston?

Any help on these will be much appreciated.

Bill,
Common upgrade, go to
http://gmcmotorhome.com/commodore/front_brake/index.html and see how it
is done.

Thanks for the info. THe modifications to fit larger 80 mm caliper pistons
seem simple. The site gave a great description of WHAT to to do but BUT not
a clue as to the actual part numbers or even from what vehicle application
these parts came from

I would appreciate any input from anyone who has done this operation as to
its effectiveness. Was it worth the effort or is change for change sake.

I do have a time line on this question as I am about to reassemble the
brakes with new std calipers and hoses, but I can return them and get the
other parts if that makes sense and I COULD FIND OUT WHICH PARTS TO GET.

Bill:

Parts, from Autozone (price does not include tax), you'll need to =
change
over to 80 mm caliper's on the front wheels are:

2 ea Banjo bolt, p/n 313935, $1.89
1 ea Caliper, left side, p/n 90185, $12.99 + core charge ($17.00)
1 ea right side, p/n 90184, price same as above
4 ea mounting bolt, p/n H5002, $3.39
1 ea Brake pad set, p/n 1534, $37.99 (these are Performance
Friction carbon metallic pads)
1 ea Flexible hose, left side, p/n 77320, $24.99
1 ea right side, p/n 77421, price same as above
2 ea bracket clip, p/n H1457, $1.29
2 ea jam nut (don't have AutoZone number for
this)
2 ea bolt and nut, ss, =BC x 1" (not an AutoZone item)

If you still need it, I have the original caliper at home and can get a
piston measurement after work tonight for you.

One of the benefits of going with an 80 mm caliper is it applies, I'm =
told,
approximately 1000 psi more braking force vs. original caliper. The
difference is noticeable.

Although there was some degree of controversy on this subject a number =
of
months back, you may want to consider going to a larger master cylinder =
if
making the switch to larger the calipers. If so, it's available from
Autozone, p/n 10166, $53.43, and does require an ~ 0.010" longer brake =
rod
(p/n GM 5469384)(between master cylinder and brake booster) as well as =
a
modified mounting bracket. If you need further details on this
modification, let me know.

Gene:

If you are referring to Bobby Moore, yes. It's also the one Leigh Harrison
uses, except his are new and not remanufactured units.

Is this the same master that Bob uses on the Cadillac conversion.
I'm having the same problem that others have had on the pedal slowly sinking
to the floor and I'm going to try another one.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have an Auto Zone within view so I had
these items in hand within a few minutes of your email. The only thing that
was different was the Banjo Bolt. 313935 was too large in diameter for the
hose or the caliper but 313934 was correct. Of course they may have had
them mixed up in the inventory.

Now on to the next challenge, how to bring the knuckles and hubs into
tolerance for bearings. I understand they can be metallized but the prices
that the suppliers are getting for rebuilts are tough.

Thanks again
