It is nice to have just a choice.

If it was me I think I would go with the 1st one based on the price.
I have one of those Green Machines too. I paid $13,500 and it
was in pretty good shape, even though it still had the original
interior. exterior and 122,000 miles. At the time I thought that
$13,500 was a little below market. Now I'm not so sure.

Cinnabar Engineering sent me a price list last year for refurbishment's.
I think they do a very good job, so maybe these prices probably are on the
high side.

Use the following as a guide:
10. Replace carpet and carpet pad. Customers choice of color and
style.
$1,700
11. Upholster all seats, cushions, wall panels and pillows using
customer's choice of material styles and colors $3,000
Price does not include fabric. Most coaches use approx. 30
yards.

Then there are other things to consider. Redoing the headliner and
the plastic trim. That's kind of expensive if you have it done or
labor intensive if you do it yourself. Also the condition of the drapes
or shades. All of this stuff could very well add up to the difference
in price if the more expensive coach just had it all done recently. If
you do it to the less expensive coach, then you can choose the colors
and they will be brand new. Again, my gut feeling would be to go
with the less expensive coach. That is what I did last year and I am not
sorry this year.

Just my opinion and I hope this helps,

What do you think #1 would look like with $6,000 worth of upgrades. I
personall like to have the money in the bank if it's not needed. $6,000 is
a nice safety margin if you do need to do any repair/upgrading.

Subject: GMC: 76 PB Purchase, the search continues...

Just when I was prepared to make an offer on the '76 PB I've previously
told
you about some friends of ours had to nose in. They told us of some
friends
of theirs that have one of these Green Machines and were getting ready to
sell. These people live only a couple miles from our house. We gave them
a
call and went to take a look at their GMC this evening (forgot the camera
though so no pics). Anyway my wife really liked it but it's more money.
So
I would like to ask once again for your advice and input.

First let me say that my wife really liked #2 because (1) it smelled good
and
(2) the interior was updated to a more modern look. I like #1 because (1)
less money (I always like this) (2) less miles but really not that big of a
difference and (3) I've grown attached to it and the original looks (I have
been spending quite a bit of time with it.

GMC: '76 PB
Price: Asking $17K, will take $14,500 plan to offer less.
Exterior: All Original and in good shape
Interior: All Original and in great shape (could use new carpet)
Mechanics: 51K on motor, everything checks out
Tires: New D's
Up Keep: Have records of some things (oil changes), can tell it has new
belts
but not sure about other things
Underside: Good but some surface rust on tanks and frame
Gen: Onan 6K Watt, 324 hours, Starts easy runs quiet
Single roof air.

GMC '76 PB
Price: Asking $20K, doesn't sound very flexible on this
Exterior; Original except stripe replaced with black also some black around
front windows (I like the green better)
Interior, All carpet and fabric replaced maybe 10 years ago, shows some
wear
but much more modern than #1. Driver and passenger seat upgraded to modern
buckets. I would classify this as late 80's MH style.
Mechanics: 73K on motor, everything looks good no formal check out yet, had
some parts replaced when needed but no upgrades to speak of.
Tires: New D's
Up Keep: Excellent, has all records for past 13 years of ownership. Can
tell
it is well taken care of.
Underside: Better than #1, hardly any surface rust
Gen: Same Onan 6K Watt, 315 or 323 hours, Starts easy runs quiet
Features that #1 doesn't have:
1 - Dual roof Air
2 - Curb side Awning
3 - Bike rack on hitch
4 - Hard spare tire cover
5 - Upgraded interior
6 - Probably slightly better condition, didn't have them side by side
7 - Higher Price.
8 - Higher Miles (20K or so)

So the main question: Is #2 worth the 6-7K more than #1. I know it's
probably difficult to quantify but if one had to put a price tag on some of
the features listed above what would it be. I have an idea of what they
are
worth to me and my wife has a different idea. The updated interior is the
biggie.

So please focus your answer on how much an upgraded interior would cost.
Assumptions; upgrade to current styles and fabrics used in moderately
priced
motorhomes of today. If I took this coach to a shop and had them replace
all
fabric and carpet what would it cost?

Thanks very much in advance. I just can't believe I have two such nice
GMCs
close to me.

BTW #2 is in no hurry to sell, he's just starting to look for an upgrade.
I
didn't ask him what he could possibly upgrade to from a GMC?

Like the idea of the $6,000 kitty for emergencies and rebuilds, etc. If #1
doesn't smell just right, a trip to an auto detailer with a 100 dollar bill
can make that sucker smell any way you want it to. That leaves $5900 for
additional toys.

Roger

Emery,
That's what I would do. Have it done by someone local.

I just mentioned Cinnabar's price as a place to start on
the prices. I'm sure Cinnabar just sends the seats out
to someone in their local area to be done.

I think you need to be careful with the choice of the
shop to do the reupholsery. I've seen some sorry examples
of both carpeting and upholstery work on GMC's. I know you
have too.

Do you really like the #2 interior? A few dollars worth of air spray can make
it smell better. Used car dealers do that all of the time.

New Flexsteel captain's chairs cost about 500 - 600 picked up at the dealer in
Indiana.
