The OEM GMC strips are sheet metal channels held in place with screws. The
visible trim is an inverted sheet metal channel which clips over the webs
of the concealed channel. Start at one end of the trim with a small pry
bar to get the separation started; removing the trim will then be easy, but
be careful about pulling it away very rapidly or with too much bend to
avoid damaging the trim.
At least that's how I remember my long-gone parts. (My indoor/outdoor
carpet headliner runs continuously from the cockpit plastic to the rear
bath plastic.)
