During the replacement of the electric hot water heater element I noticed=
a
couple of things that I was uncomfortable with in the 120 Volt wiring
(wires routed into junction boxes without going through cable clamps etc.=
)
As a result I decided to inspect (and repair) all the 120 volt wiring,
junctions etc..
>
Ended up replacing all twist on connectors with the set screw clamping
type. I believe these connectors to be much more reliable in a motor home=

situation.
>
Anyhow, during this inspection I found that 12 Volt grounds were routed
into the A/C Breaker Box !
>
With 12 Volt grounding inside the A/C breaker box if a 12 Volt ground wir=
e
was to come loose it might contact (and become live with) a 120 Volt
source.
>
To take care of this I installed a grounding bus bar on the exterior of t=
he
breaker box to move these 12 volt grounds to.
>
I have checked a couple of places includig the "GMC Maintenance Manual"
however I can't find anything this specific.
>
Having no understanding of the history of my particular coach and being
curious I must ask, were these coaches originally wired with 12 volt
grounds inside the A/C breaker box?
>
Although I have a good understanding of the issues surrounding A/C wiring=
,
I am not licensed as an electrician, and therefore while I don't believe =
12
Volt grounding in the A/C breaker box to be a good thing I don't know wha=
t
the code people might think. Any comment from any Electricians out there?=
