'73 - engine department question

The picture is pretty good, but the interesting feature is still kind of hidden.
My guess, based on some experience, would be that it is a pressure tap from the fuel line. Some PO silver brazed a 1/4 SAE flare in there and then
the pressure gauge and line was removed. Along the way the fitting got capped, but he didn't have a 1/4 SAE flare cap, he just used what he had.

I like the fact that the rubber line is starting to crack.

Looks like a good way to set the place on fire. Wait till the engine is >cold< and then take the rubber hose off and put a proper cap on the line.
It might have been for a gauge or someone's idea of how to beat vapor lock,. Either way, get rid of it.

That hose is perished as the Brits say. No rubber between pump and carb is the mantra. Also what is the plastic vacuum Y just above the fuel inlet?
That style usually has a metal restrictor orifice in one leg.

Guessing it was maybe for an aux gas can (Boat can) to bypass the mechanical pump. Perhaps the tanks were full of crap and in lieu of dropping the
tanks they brazed in the fitting...

Or that was the way someone ran an electric fuel pump to the carb.

Either way, I would replace that line with a braided heat shield line from one of the Jims.
