Help,
The unit has been setting for Seince 1986 in a Airplane hanger. What do I
have to do, need to do, or just should do to make this unit road ready. It
came with a 70's Eldarodo with a 501cid, would this make a good swap or
just leave the original motor. Also the interior is in good shape other
than being orange. One interior concern is that the base galley cabinet
appears to be separating from the wall, any comments?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am glad to be a GMC
owner, I hope to meet up with one of the rallies some day.

Thanks Brett Howard

Brett --

Welcome. Hope you enjoy your GMC as much as the rest of us. I have a 'check
list', I'll send it to you off-line. In the meantime, grow your hair out,
get a leather headband, pull on some ultra-wide bell bottom jeans and take
off. I'd suggest Woodstock III as one of your first trips.

With that advice out of the way, I'll offer that most will advise keeping
the Olds engine (unless it's shot) and rebuilding it if it is.

The Cad engine is actually lighter, but the accessories mount differently,
and the cam in those engines don't have a lot of low end torque.

Can't say why your cabinets are making a break for it, but someone will
know.

Oh -- two other things... make orange your new favorite color, and send Dave
Greenburg your VIN and vital stats at mailto:davegreenberg1

First,
Check the brake lines for rust. If there bad...
Replace them. Check the gas in the tanks. If its
old. Drain it. Check the radiator, Oil, Transmission fluid. Put a new
battery in it and fir it up. GOOD LUCK. Sounds like my 74 26' Painted
Desert. Sat in storage since 1987. Get a service
manual. Check everything mechanical. Work on the
cosmitics after all leaks are fixed.
Thats what I'm doing.
