On our way to the Myrtle Beach rally we stopped by Jim Bounds place and had
a 6 wheel alignment done. When we arived Jim asked me if we were going to
get our wheels trued and ballanced. I knew he was going to ask that
question and I had been trying to figure out for the previous two days what
my answer was going to be. I did not have any problem with the ballancing
but it is hard to see someone cut rubber from your $150 each tires. I
swallowed hard and said for him to go ahead. I figured that if I did not
watch it would not bother me so much. Well, I could not keep myself from
looking once in a while. It took longer than I thought to true and ballance
each tire. Jim's man was very careful to get each tire round without taking
off any more rubber than was necessary and to get each tire ballanced to
perfection.
Jim and his helper set my GMC on some special pads and hooked some things to
my wheels. These things were hooked to a computer that displayed a bunch of
numbers as will as some bar graphs. They went through quite a process
getting all 6 wheels aligned the way they wanted them. I got a computer
printout of the numbers showing the alignment of each wheel's position after
the alignment was completed. They had to bend a couple of my rear arms to
get them aligned correctly.
After the alignment I took the GMC out on the highway and what a difference.
There was not any more shaking that made it hard to read the speed and
distance on my GPS screen. I could turn loose of the steering wheel and the
coach went straight down the highway. I have not had any problems since the
alignment and trueing and ballancing. I have put about 1500 miles on the
coach since Jim worked on it.
I would recomend that everyone get their coach aligned and the tires trued
and ballanced. It makes them drive so much better.
We are currently in a campground outside of Shreveport and I thought I had
better get these emails written. When I get back home tomorrow I will not
have time to write them.
