6 gal hot water adapter issue

Hi all at my age i would rather ask question than stand on my head and install this and have a leak. the installed defunct heating element has and offset flange and the screw in element adapter is relatively flat making me question can i get a good seal.. it appears marginal to me maybe i need a new gasket on to insert into the tank opening ?. but i do not know ..attached are series of images that . '1'tank id and '2' serial number "3". adapter on lh vs existing "4" close up adapter on lh vs offset original mounting plate "5' tank offset mounting plate "6" thick gasket installed in tank' what do u all think thanks for you attention larry

Forum do not know what iam missing on this. ,,hard for me to see and do & was looking for the wisdom. maybe no one has had this before. will try my best to figure out and share for the future .. my best guess now is the 4 bolt gasket will not work and the thick ring gasket for tank by itself.. maybe will thanks larry

Hi Larry, It looks like you may have to clean up and reuse the old seal. That new flat gasket doesn't appear like it would work.

I'd like to see the sealing surfaces of both new and old elements with their corresponding gaskets next to them.

forum.. got it back together..realized my misconception. .then drain push in plastic fitting broke at the tank base .very bad location . may have to remove the tank any suggestions appreciated... also the tank appears to be original . removed inches of rust sludge.maybe time to put in a new tank thanks larry
