Being a Chevy person your comment about putting a 502 cid. in the
GMC got my attention. Chevy sells a 502 crate motor with over 500
ft.lbs. of torque at 2800 rpms.( not bad ).
Wow! That's great. Do you have any more details about the install... How
did it mount to the tranny, what kind of horsepower does it put out, how
much did it cost?
But most importantly, howz she run?
Larry & Jim:
The fellow who is very knowledgeable about this setup is indeed Ken Rose.
He has done a couple of installations. He recently completed the stretched
coach that was started by a friend of his (CO Richards) who died. Ken puts
in the Accel FI along with the 502 engine. I visited the shop in Texas when
he was completing the stretch. My sense of it is that it is no small job.
How does it run? Ken says that it has oodles of torque. He recently
completed a 1500 mile break-in trip and averaged 7.9 mpg. Just remember
that the 502 is heavier than the 455. I think that Buskirk charges about
$12,000 for the non-FI 502 installed.
