Steve,
Being a Chevy person your comment about putting a 502 cid. in the
GMC got my attention. Chevy sells a 502 crate motor with over 500
ft.lbs. of torque at 2800 rpms.( not bad ).
I just received a Speedway catalog showing an adaptor to bolt a Chevy
V-8 to an olds TH350 trans. Will this also work with the GMC trans? Does
anyone have information on this setup? Oil pan clearance, torque
convertor, exhaust, motor mounts, etc.

This installation has been done by Buskirk's. They have done 2 in the
past 2 years. Requires special mods to the oil pan for the axles to
clear and brackets to mount the axle supports. Does Speedway have a
800 number so I can order a catalog?

San Antonio.

It looks like a small block stroked to 502CI. Is it?

It's a very nice installation. Kerri Tandy(?) is the new owner and let us
take a good look at his setup. Installation was clean, and surprisingly had
some room to spare in the engine compartment.

GMC crate engines are shown at

The 502 is a Big Block with a 4" stroke (same as 454) and a 4.47" bore, it
has about 480 ft.lbs. of torque at 1750 rpm.

Although GM does not recommend fuel injection for the HT 502 they supply it
in a kit to be used as a 454 replacement in trucks. The kit includes a new
PROM for the electronic fuel injection.

These engines are available with aluminum heads, intakes and waterpumps,
steel roller cams, forged steel cranks, and other good stuff.

It would be interesting to get some miles/gallon figures from anyone using
these engines, the Vortec heads GM now uses are supposed to be more
efficient.

Maybe Buskirks could put together a kit for those who need a new engine
(everyone eventually) and wish to go this route..
