Brent, I am in the process of installing the CAD motor in our GMC so I
have no first hand experience as to the performance or mileage. The
motor has been blue printed and balanced and has a VT5 Comp. cam from
MTS. The torque convertor is from Mondello. I am going to use Cadillac
carb. for now but will go to fuel injection at a later date. My final
drive ratio is 3.66. We are looking forwad to our first test drive.
While the motor was out I have rebuilt the front end, ball joints,
bearings, tie rod ends, and bushings. I will, also, up date the six
wheel disc brakes with 80 mm calipers, and carbon metalic pads.
The CAD swap is almost a bolt-in except for the front motor mount and
oil pan. Gary Kosier gave me the tip on using the front motor mount and
brackets from a 68-72 Eldorado. The oil pan is from a 68-77 Eldorado.
Anyone thinking about this swap should be on the lookout for these parts
as they are getting rather pricey. I started with a complete Eldorado
front end.
I was concerned about some posts I had read about cracking of the lower
control arm, so I welded a plate on top of the control arm and tapped
the side bolt holes to 3/8-24. This eliminated all slop. There is a
picture of control arm and reinforcement on Scott Nehoda's photo point
site.
I will post updates as to how everything works out.
