500 cad is a direct replacement and will fit perfectly. Many GMCers
have used it.

Thank You Thomas,
This was good news for me to wake up to!
Now My chore will be to weigh the Pros and Cons of the swap. Have You
any thoughts regarding 455 vs. 500?
Tim

I love the 455 and think it is a stronger engine especially if you have one
with a steel crank and HP heads. I would keep the cad as a spare.

What is the advantage of a "steel" crank?
Of what material are the others?

Tim

Others are cast. steel crank is much stronger.

Thanks again Tom, for the help here. I'm still hoping others will join
in with their experience and opinions on the 500 vs 455.
The second thing You mentioned was the heads. What is different about
the HP (high performance???) heads.

Larry........If I remember correctly, the was an article in Motorhome
Marketplace by someone who did the swap. As I recall, it was difficult and
they weren't happy with the finished product. Check with the magazine and
they'll send you a copy of the article.........Jim Davis
