403 Rebuild

Have removed 403 engine and transmission from 77 GMC Kingsley (engine =
froze up after oil leak on highway). Began rebuilding engine but have =
run out of time, patience and have found out that the project is beyond =
my expertice and facilities at my disposal. Now must find a repair shop =
to do the work. Does anyone know of a repair shop in the Panama City, =
FL area that can handle this job? =20

Sharon you could always take the engine to Alex Sirum in Okeechobee
Fla,,941-763-1121. If that is not possible than from my experience it is
always better to contact a machine shop that rebuilds engines on a regular
basis and has all of the equipment and expertise to do the job right,
including an engine dynomometer to check out the engine after rebuild. You
want an engine that is reliable and put together right. Automotive repair
shops seldom have the expertise to rebuild engines and would almost
certainly send the work out to be done. Since you already have the engine
out of the coach it would not be feasible to go that route unless you also
wanted them to reinstall the engine after rebuild. I would also advise that
since the engine is out, you think seriously about changing it for a 455,
more power and low end torque and a tougher engine. Rebuildable cores can
be had quite cheaply in the junk yards.

I lived in panama City many years ago and belonged to a hot rod club (think
it was called the twirlers). Clubs like that are always good sources of
information on who the good machine shops are. Members of these clubs are
very knowlegeable about the mechanics and pass information to other clubs
and members about their experience with each shop. Go to any speed shop in
Panama City and they will not only tell you where the clubs are in the area
but probably who the good engine rebuilders are.

I have checked the GMC international membership roster and can find no
members in Panama City, however there are 2 in Fort Walton Beach and maybe
they can help. Tell them how you got their names.

It's a "fer piece" from PC, but check with Golby Motors in Orlando. If
you don't want to travel that far for the rebuild, maybe they can
recommend someone in your area.
