Scott:

As long as the gears are dimensionally compatable in size to the original,
you should be able to have any ratio you wanted installed in the carrier. I
know of a least one owner who has had a local shop build up a differential
for his coach.

Looking in Summit's catalog, gear sets go for ~ $200.00. They have a number
of choices for the GM 10-bolt differential, 3.42:1 being one of them in a
7.5" diameter ring gear size group. None is listed in the 8.20", and one is
in the 8.50 size group. Since they list a 25 and 27 spline pinion gear
grouping, does anyone know how many splines are on our setup???

Wonder what we would find out by calling Summit (800-230-3030) to ask what
they have that would fit a Toronado differential??? You just may be on to
something.

Incidentially, the Sep 1995/Issue 5, Cinnabar newsletter, p. 2, discusses
the 3.42:1 ring and pinion gear set.

Hi GMC!
I typed in 307 in a search engine, looking for trans axles. This one
came
up(Below), not that significant, except it says 307 in a chevy axle.
Now my
thought was, does that mean this ratio in the ring and pinion gears
being the
same, might fit in our GMCs. To go further does a swap of gears to a
3.42
mean just getting those gears out of some scrap GMC vehicle and bolting
into
our carriers? I understand there are backlashes and tolerances that
would
have to be performed but is this basically what Caspro and other do to
charge
us $1,000 to $1,500.?
