Yep, those 20 year old water heater hoses I just felt of are pretty hard.
Time to replace them. I know one of the engine heater hoses is 3/4" and
the other 5/8". What I don't know is their lengths. Nor do I know the
diameter of the hoses to & from the water heater, nor their lengths needed
to reach from the engine connections back to the water heater (just behind
the 23' GMC's entry door). Does anyone have those dimensions handy?

Thanks for your help saving me from buying excess hose.

Why not remove it then buy it? You will probably end up needing some clamps
and couplers as well which you won’t know about prior to removal.

It's generally best in our little town to get everything on hand before
tearing things down, else we're liable to come up short something.

Ken,

Your 23 is different than my 23 by years and more. But, when I did this years ago, I was advised by those here to just
"Buy the Box" (50) of hose. I think I ended up with about 6 feet in surplus. That was covered by the per/ft vs box cost.
The only thing I was not advised of was the need of the things that I do not remember the name of (I will look tomorrow)
spring like things that allow tight bends without the hose pinching closed.

DO NOT pull the hose out!!!!!!
DUCT TAPE the new hose to the old and pull it through.

Stitch the new hose to old hose with wire and than duct tape.
If this hose has not ben replaced before try twisting the hose
as you pull it out to break away from the sprayed on insulation.

I carefully examined the situation today. I'm going to have to remove the
fresh water tank (which is beneath the across-from-kitchen sofa-bed) in
order to get to the hose connections on the hot water heater. I'll then
have easy access and no need for any of that "connect & snake" stuff: the
hoses have gentle curves beneath the floor and gentle curves above it.
There's no foam involved. The holes in the floor will just have to be
re-caulked when I'm done. With the gentle curves, I can get by without the
"hose springs" Matt mentioned, but I may add them this time since they're
apparently available locally and might prevent problems.

I'll just go ahead and order 50' of hose, though I think

Good morning Ken.. your Birch may be different but the water heater hoses I have replaced has all been 5/8". The front "T" at the water pump is a
reducer "T" from 3/4 to 5/8 and the rear hose is 5/8. If you use The silly cone hose like on the big trucks you will need stainless clamps that have
a longer tail under the rack slots in the clamps to keep the hose from seeping out and causing trouble later on.

Thanks, Chuck,

Yep, I'm sure the rear hoses are 5/8". I saw notes about silicone hose
requiring special clamps but didn't know what it meant. Based on their
life vs mine, I've decided against that expenditure.

Hope you're doing better!

Ken,

I reckon if you used silicone hoses you'd be even more of a hero PO to the next owner of your Birchaven!

A coach with all electrical wires labeled deserves silicone hoses. Only the best, Ken!

I used the Gates green stripe hose. Easier to seal, cheaper and will most likely outlive me. Hal
