1970...is this worth looking at?

200 - 250 >if< you happen to need a buildable (hopefully) 455 and/or THM425. Or if the body's good and you have a 70 Toro that's got cancer in the
body parts.

My understanding is that there were a few internal parts in the 425s which were motorhome specific and unobtainable anymore.

So the 425 from a car may not be a rebuild and drop in type of unit. I cant recall which specific parts but thats what I was lead to believe.

I thought the Toro’s had 400 trannies and that the 425 was specific to our GMC’s!

The TH425 is a rebuildable unit and parts are still available to have it rebuilt. Any TH425 should be salvage to insure that the units are available. I have one rebuilt sitting in the shop ( 3.50 chain drive unit), another one that is rebuildable and another that may become a donor if it is not a good core. I have a friend that just moved 3 trannys on to a another club member that rebuilds transmission.

Mike, the 425s are FWD configuration, whereas the 400s are reaer or [with a TF case] 4WD

The internal parts are similar but generally not interchangeable.

AS I understand it, the item hard to find is the drive chain

No, the 425 is go front wheel drive so it was used in the Tornados.
The motorhome ones had an additional disk in the clutch packs.
