12V DC Load Path

Hello,

I want to install a Victron BMV700 battery monitor. The instructions are straight forward until I get to my coach and try and identify the 12v
negative side load path for house circuits. The aluminum plate have several positive circuit bus bars but not a common neg bus bar. What is the best
way to capture the house side battery loads so I can direct to shunt "load side"? Thank you...Alan

Where are you installing? I attached my BMV700 ground to the house ground
in the electrical cabinet.

My intent was to install shunt beside the diode isolator above batteries. Definitely want to keep wire length to a minimum.

So are your house batteries up front, below the firewall? If so, connect
directly to the negative post.

A question like this needs to include all pertinent information in order to
get an informed answer.
What model GMC do you have?
Where is your house battery (s) located?

Remove the cable from the the house battery negative terminal and connect it to one end of the shunt. Run a new battery cable from the other end of
the shunt to the house battery negative terminal. Only this way will all the house battery current run thru the shunt and allow accurate readings on
the Victron battery monitor.

I am not familiar with the location of the batteries in a Royale, so cannot advise on where to mount the shunt. Just insure that the cables used are
of sufficient size, especially if you will be powering an inverter.

I should have clarified battery locations. On my Royale it has a Honda generator back left with start battery aft of it. I have two batteries up front
on passenger side with fwd battery supplying chassis and aft battery the house. So the intent is to put shunt in series with negative side of house
battery. I will locate the shunt next to isolator and that will make connections short and simple.

Now this all makes sense. I thought only the early coaches had the house bank in the front. As this happens, now I can tell you that John is
correct. I know this because that is what I did. We have a Bogart not a Victronic, but the same idea and it works like a champ except that I have
been chasing a phantom 200mA drain for a couple of years now.

I just love seeing that state of charge say "100".

I have a 75 GMC upfit with one front engine battery and one rear house battery. I have a 78 Coachmen upfit also. I thought the Coachmen upfit followed
the 73 GMC wiring idea, as it had a battery in rear by genny, and two up front by engine. I was very surprised when I finally figured out the Royale
actually had one front battery and the rear battery in PARALLEL for the house system. Not, as expected, with rear battery setup only as genny starter.
Relevant to your question about the monitor, because there is not one ground point for the house load. I put a monitor on the 75 and it was relatively
simple. I do not know how I would do 78 Royale without moving something.

My ex royale came with a generator battery and a #2 or maybe #0 battery cable that runs all the way to the front.
I just removed the battery and the gen starts just fine off the house battery
