Hi all,

My name is Pete, I’m currently in Connecticut, and I don't yet have a GMC motorhome, but it's going to happen sooner or later.

I almost got one a few weeks ago, for $1,500, but I don't currently have a good space to do a frame up rebuild. LOL

I first saw one of these in the movie Stripes back in the 80's, but never realized they were a real motorhome until about 9 years ago when I saw one behind a house next to a new job in 2017.

Been watching videos and stuff on them ever since, and definitely want one eventually.

I've done motorcycle and auto rebuilds in the past, so I'm looking forward to getting one and working on it, but am expecting to move within the next yearish, so barring an unexpected sweet find I’ll be waiting till then to start a project with one. Or maybe two, as I want one for traveling, and maybe one to make a mobile used book store out of.

In the meantime I’ll be poking around here, & everywhere else, learning as much as I can about them.

Hi Pete, and welcome! You should stop by one (or more) of the Nor'easters rallies to meet the gang and me. Several of the campgrounds on our schedule have cabins if you want to spend the night. We usually get 6-12 coaches at our events. www.gmcnoreasters.org.

Get the $1500 coach, and keep it as a parts coach.

Then look for a 'good' coach that's been well maintained and in continuous use. Don't get the one that 'ran when parked'

I second that motion...

I jumped at my coach, not knowing the going rate for a coach in its condition (rough); paid too much and still have had to dump well north of $10K (possibly $20K?) into it to get it running reliably on the highway and livable while boondocking (and it still isn't "pretty", hence the AI generated image). A good portion of that (probably most) was labor as I don't have the space, tools, time, or knowledge to do much of the mechanical/fabrication work required. I can learn, but time is money and I don't have enough time and still wouldn't have a place to work on it or all of the tools needed....
