Holley Throttle Body Component Part Numbers

Paul,

I agree, If I go through the exercise, I'm going to do it right and to the best of my ability. I have a couple of feelers out looking for a reasonably priced GM 17094060 7.4L throttle body.

If money didn't matter, does it really make a difference boring out the GM 17094060 7.4L throttle body?

Thanks again to all,
Tom K.

I couldn't say without a dyno, but I'd lean towards it being diminishing returns for use in the motorhome. GM picked 50mm for pickups and motorhomes with 454 engines, likely spending most of their time in the same RPM range we'll operate in. It seems it'd be in the same ballpark with our 455 engines and similar GCWR.

If I cared about 0-60 times on a higher-revving big block, I'd probably bore them out. I could be wrong though, maybe it makes a measurable difference. I'll never find out though, as I'm unwilling to spend the cash on dynos and multiple throttle bodies. I'm pretty happy with my coach's performance now, with the 454 50mm TBI and 3.70 gears. I'm pulling the 4000 lb boat up and down hills as needed and not spending too much time holding up traffic.

On a recent trip through the mountains, my max Duty Cycle recorded was 56%, FWIW.
I should start recording logs and such. It was so nice to just have it running smoothly and reliably, I focused on gauge displays, then got distracted by everything else the coach needs (leaks, interior things, etc). I'll have to add my VSS, get a better FPS and get into datalogging more this winter. I'm thinking it's time for a surge tank too.

Exactly, at the max airflow able to get through the bottleneck, the tb.
Tmsnyder , both the holly and the rochester with the two inch four are the same boar size. Fitted with the proper injectors , they should both yield the same amount of flow. I'm fighting with this theory in considering if I should go to the GM or the Holley throttle body. Bye\nThe time I buy and rebuild a General motors, throttle body.I could simply buy the spare components for the holley. Just thinking out loud. In maryland the junkyards can only hold the vehicles for thirty days. I'm going to plan a pennsylvania excursion to some of the more popular junkyards up there. The one hundred dollar throttle body on facebook needed a lot of work. My hope is to find one in better condition.

That's insane, and just wrong. It seems like there ought to be a business for shipping them off to another state rather than sending them to the crusher. Maybe they do.

I went to a junkyard in WA this summer and pulled parts off a car that had been sitting there since 1993! They weren't cheap, but 1948 Pontiacs aren't growing on trees. It's a shame to consider how many 454 TBIs have probably been scrapped when contained in old junk motorhomes.
