House Battery Compartment Restoration

That'd be cool to see pictures or understand how that got extended 2'!
I'd always thought about cutting 2' off the 260 keeping the longer wheelbase--like the Hot Wheels Car version of the GMC RV. But then I just put down the crack pipe... going to love it the way it is. (This one at least.)
The rear cap was removed, and two feet was added. Then the rear cap was reinstalled. Making room for twin beds in the back area, with outside storage.

This goes into detail on the shorter rear-only stretch process.

Buskirk stretched a number of GMCs - beefed up frames, moved the bogeys back.

Back in the day there was actually a kit to add a 2-3' stretch section to the back of a GMC.
Wow. My current rig “Goldie” we call her, is far too fresh to be torn all the way down like that. What great documentation on that though, thank you.

Not to highjack a thread but, how short can a 26 be shortened? :) That would be a fun project!
I agree, might be fun to rescue one with rear end damage—
Ditch Generator, put LIon battery bank inside, or upfront, put water tank in there, and two propane tanks on a slide like a camper…

—but I think it would handle better and have fewer traction issues with less weight behind the rear axles—but your right, this should be in that thread referenced above…. Oh if I had time and money—all the fun things I could do. ;-). Leave like maybe 12” overhang, just make the rear closet across the back, tanks could go under that… oh boy!

Looks great, Jeremy.
I was looking for something else in my shop yesterday when found one I don't remember having. I plan to go to LiFePO4s as well, so I'll follow your lead.
Will 2 of those Battleborns fit in the space?
I do see that they have come up with a form facter to replace GC2s footprint exactly now, albeit a little taller and more expensive.
Billy, Two of the Battle Born BBGC-2 batteries have the same footprint as two flooded cell 6-volt GC-2 batteries. They will fit on your standard battery tray like the one made by Ragusa. That's what I have. I think there is actually room for two of the Group-27 Battle Born batteries without the tray in there. The BBGC-2 batteries are 12 volt 100 amp batteries.
