GMCMI to raise dues to $100?

We were thinking of joining GMCMI in January. We really don't want to join now and only get credit for less than half a year.

I heard from a member that the dues were going to go up to $100/year at some point. If that is true, I don't want to join at all since I don't see the value at that price point and we live too far from most of their rallys to attend. So we don't really know what the value of a membership would be since they don't have a magazine and the website is way out of date.

Anyone know if that is true?

I cannot speak if the dues are going up. But you are 1st to mention it. I am with billy in thinking that is false.


You are close enough for “most”. But maybe someday for one.

The value is in support of what i have seen is a club in transition for the better. There are many things i believe the club does that is not seen.
90+ gmcs and the brain trust that goes with those gatherings speads far and wide from a rally. There is so much that goes on between people helping people and our coach’s over the years because of GMCMI. I just reached out to someone I know because od GMCMI that I have never met in person. Because that person I knew would have my answer to help my friend out with his gmc.

I just filled my gmc with gas. A yearly club membership is less the. A tank of gas.

The President of GMCMI is my wife Lucy. I can say as a GMCMI board member with some authority that there is no talk or speculation of any kind that the dues structure is going to change any time soon. There has been NO talk of any kind among board members or anyone that we know of regarding a dues increase. It will remain at $45 into the foreseeable future. If you join in September, you will be given membership for the rest of the year and that membership will carry until December 31, 2026. Dues for 2027 will be due in January 2027. You have a year and 4 months to decide if what you get from GMCMI is worth it. With the 2025-2026 membership, you could attend our fall convention in Traverse City MI and the spring convention set for Vidalia LA. GMCMI board and associated volunteers are working diligently to provide relevant benefits for its members. If you have questions or concerns, please contact any board members or admin@GMCMI.com. We'd love to have you as a member.

I've been in on every board meeting and this hasn't been discussed once. Who told you that dues were being raised to $100?

I've been a member of GMCMI going back to 1999 and have attended about 20 conventions if memory serves me correctly. The last being the fall of '23 in Michigan. I let my membership lapse since I am not happy with the direction GMCMI is going.

I signed up for the TC rally back in May even though I was no longer a GMCMI member and not entitled to member benefits. I only did that because it was going to be in Michigan and I wanted to see first hand the new convention format. The sign up page on the website probably should not have allowed a nonmember to register without first joining GMCMI.

I decided 6 days ago that I probably should join again since I'm going to the TC rally, so I did. Now I find out that had I waited a week or so, I would have had my membership extended through 2026 (16 months) instead of it ending in 4 months. GMCMI should consider a better way to prorate midterm membership joining/renewals.

Thanks so much for rejoining. I've extended your GMCMI membership to the end of 2026. I'd love to meet with you in Michigan and discuss your concerns about the organization.

I attended the most recent International in Waynesville, NC, the first for me since 2019. I was also very concerned about the changes that GMCMI was going through.

It was, as usual, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Most all things were different, but there wasn't any thing that I didn't like.

It's a transition period for sure, and change can be disconcerting, but it's probably best to reserve judgement and see for yourself.

Excuse me, correction, there was one thing I didn't like which was the same as at every other one I've been to - it ended!

Thanks for the extension. That makes me feel a lot better about rejoining. I look forward to chatting with you about the concerns that I have (shared by a few of my GMC friends) at the TC gathering.

The insurance is to insure club events (like Dixielander, Sunshine Statesman, Pacific Cruisers, etc) and is not for personal insurance at all. I can get you some more information about what specifically it covers.

That's what I thought it was; it would be interesting to see what it covers. Also, is there somewhere on the site that a club can find out about it?
