Hi all,

Been researching motorhomes for the past year, decided to join this forum as I am leaning towards one of these. I'm cool with a full restore needing one, as long as rust is not a major factor. A bit of a ways out from purchase, but soon as I have space, will be getting one.

Currently in Toronto, but may be moving back to southwestern USA again, where in the desert would be an ideal place for one of these to work on and find in good 'er' condition.

There is a blue GMC Motorhome I saw all summer just off of highway 400 parked in an industrial area with all tires flatspotted lol. Looks to have original alcoas tho. Anyone here own that one or know anything about it?

I have been on forums for a long time for different cars and trucks I've owned, hope to build the same help others and get helped basis eventually here.

Here are my other current forum usernames and link to my YouTube channel, if any of you can drop me a subscribe it would help as I'm almost at 1000, in which case I can take YouTube more seriously and add to the video legacies of continuing to keeping these alive

Allan got back to me, looks like I'll have to go knock on some doors to find out more about that motorhome. If it is still there I'll snap some pics and post here too.

Allan's reply:

Jim,

There were only two blue GMCs in our Club that I know of. The Glacier model was blue if this one is the original colour. One of them is still in the Club and the other I haven't heard of for a long time and was owned by someone in the London area.

Sorry but I'm afraid I'm no help.

Try contacting Borrmann's Garage in Bluevale Ontario. They are the go to repair center in Southern Ontario for GMCs. They usually know of customers who are interested in selling their coaches.

From a fellow GTA dweller, welcome to the show!

Mind if i ask where you spotted this one? I frequently travel the 400 (from Black Creek, right through Barrie) and haven't noticed any of these motorhomes parked along the highway.

If you do manage to make any headway on purchasing it, i have a towing contact that works for cash, and beats everyone else's pricing - and the guy is super professional about doing his job.

Here's to hoping your door knocking leads you to acquiring it! 🤞🏻

Good to know!

While i don't live in the area, they're less then an hour from where i park my truck.

Chris.

Thanks! I was in the area where the blue one was recently, but too busy to put the time in, I gotta go before snow.

I'm not working on 400 corridor right now so if you can be my eyes before I go back: When you are going northbound on the 400 after you merge from the 401 east to 400 north ramp, hug the slow lane and keep your eyes peeled on the right, on the industrial road running along the 400 (parallel to 400). The coach is (was 2months ago when I last drove by) about 50 feet into the entrance of one of the brick building parking lots, and you will see the rear end of the coach perpendicular to the 400. From what I remember it was something ranging from a midnight blue colour ranging closer to a 'late 80's gmc square body suburban sunbaked blue colour' with six flatspotted Alcoa s

Thanks, this is good to know. Let's see how the search continues...

Amotor,
You do realize, I hope, that this is an international forum. I am certain that there are many readers that have no idea where GTA is and probably no more than those that have any idea what the 400 corridor means. Even as a non-owner, you could enter and use a sigfile so this is not mystery to those reader that don't know about the geography of the Ontario Province of Canada.

If you are planning on moving back to SW USA again, you would be better to wait. There will be more selection of GMC's there and likely at a better price. Avoiding the hassle of having to import it back into the USA and moving the coach there as well (may have to be transported).

Larry,
As some that has traveled international both for employment and pleasure, I an assure you that most of the world has some idea where Detroit is located. Those that want to know more can look at a map and discover the other internationally know city that is AA or A2 or A**2. And those people will also recognize the three letter airport designation.
I did not know of a serious airport GTA and what was funny was that when I went to see if there was one, the response was to tell me about airports in the GTA,

I would just phone them as the coaches are more likely with the owners rather than sitting at Borrmann's.
I guess i should have been crystal clear on my response to your post i quoted. I was simply saying it was good to know that there is a knowledgable service location for these old girls.

While i'm pretty mechanically inclined, these motorhomes are virgin territory, so, aside from the fine members on here, it's good to know there is someone local for physically conversing with.

Thanks again Mr. Burns. 0

LOL, having grown up right there at the 400/401 interchange, i was 99% sure it was along the short stretch there.

I'm tentatively going by there this weekend, so i will make a slight detour, and scout it out. If the business is open, i will make inquiries (on your behalf) and pass along any intel i can.

GTA = Great Toronto Area AKA "The City" to Toronto people He actually mentioned "Currently in Toronto, but may be moving back to southwestern USA again" in the original post.
YYZ = Toronto (Pearson) airport.

As a Canuck, I'm constantly trying to figure out locations Americans are talking about, but I've got a good handle on a lot of them. I've flown out of DTW a few times, so I recognize that as the Detroit Airport, not Dead to The World, or Driving To Work or the number of other things it is short form for. I've been through Detroit many times, but I don't know what or where A2 is, but I do know I75.

I always try to define my acronyms before using them. FB people are terrible for playing "guess what I mean or what and where I am talking about!

LMAO! That right there is precisely why i never joined FB.

Then years later, i joined instacrap, 'cause i was told it was better for me, as it was mostly just photo sharing for your rides. Boy, did my brother ever lie to me about that rabbit hole! 😆
