Is anyone interested in a Wizzer mass buy?
>>
I've been hoping someone else would ask "What's a Wizzer" so I wouldn't
have
to expose my ignorance.

If it's what I think it is, it's spelled Whizzer & it's made by Harley
Davidson. Rode one once back in the Zundap era.

Steve,
You're 100% right. They were a product of Harley to compete with the 60's
Japanese invasion of small, inexpensive fun machines. They had a very sleek,
thinner Sportster style gas tank with an offset cap which is highly priced
even today. Heck, H-D is even making bicycles now-a-days at the low
introductory price of only $1500-$2500!!! They look like the old Schwinn's
of the 50's only much, much nicer. Man, it would take a lot of paper routes
to pay for one of these bad boys! Sure would look cool on the back of my
"Sweat Lodge" though!

Nate:

Not so if you look at the factory site history
(http://www.whizzermotorbike.com/History.html), which says it was initially
available in August 1939, which is just a year or two before the "60s".!

I also see no reference in the above URL to any Harley-Davidson involvement,
either???

I think the Sprint was Harleys answer to the smaller bikes back then. I
think they were made in Italy.

I had a Whizzer about 1950. I was on a Schwinn 26" bike which had a spring
action front fork. I use to ride at about 30 MPH. My tank was chrome and
straddled the top frame bar. The air-cooled engine drove the rear wheel with a
belt. Braking was done with the regular coaster brakes and/or front cable
friction brakes. A friend had a later model which was a two speed model on a 20"
Schwinn frame. Bet if we had them now they'd be worth a pretty penny. That's
what I did then.

If it is the Whizzer I'm thinking of I had one on my
Iver Johnson back in Ninteen Aught and Forty Eight.
It was made by Whizzer Corp. which I believe turned up
it's toes in the early '50's.

Wow, Steve, what a flash back for me! In the same post you used Whizzer
and Zundap. In my youth those "motorcicles" taught me the meaning of
"basket case" (that's the way my brothers and I bought them) and its
where my present penchant for old motorhomes like was born as well. I
still have an Ossa under the porch.
