I did not install longer studs because the stock studs engage all of the
threads on the Alcoa nuts. Any threads beyond the top thread of the nut is
not contributing to the strength of the nut/stud installation. If your
studs are damaged or if you think they have been weakened for any reason,
then you would want to replace them.
