The GMC Net seems to be slow today.
I have a question. My original GMC wheel covers squeak a lot. It's so
bad that I've had people come up to me to tell me they think I have a
bad wheel bearing. The original owner said he gave up trying to fix the
constant squeaking. I'm kind of embarrassed to drive it around with all
the racket it makes.
I've tried bending the wheel cover tabs, I've put masking tape and 200
MPH duct tape on the wheels where the wheel cover tabs engage. A slight
improvement. One wheel stopped squeaking after its wheel cover fell
off! I'm considering doing the following:
1) Get rid of the wheel covers completely, paint the wheels white and
get new chrome lug nuts. My crazy neighbor George did that with his
Orange '73 Canyon Lands (he painted his wheels black) and it looks good.
2) Get Alcoa Wheels and new tires (can't really justify that expense yet
and the tires are only 2 years old).
3) Get ear plugs and figure that anyone who's staring at us while we're
moving is just admiring the old girl.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do?
Thanks,
