Anybody got an idea what this thing is:

Mopar B or RB engine, which means TorqueFlite trans. If I can steal it, I'd like the engine and trans out of it.

Johnny, it looks like a 413, which is the same family as the 383-440. If it
is, and a whole lot of them were used in trucks and motorhomes, it will
have a gear driven camshaft, not chain, and it will have a forged
crankshaft. Heavy duty valve rotators. Lots of good durable parts. I have a
MOPAR SHOP MANUAL THAT CAN I.D. it if you get me some casting numbers and
stamped in serial numbers.

Know it's a B or RB, and 413s went in a lot of chassis used for RVs, later 440s were the move. Turns out it's in Calera AL. Guy bought a foreclosure
and this was on the property. If I can get the engine and trans away from him I'll go look - but I'd like to know more about the RV. He knows
nothing at all. For the gearheads, that engine family was built in 350, 361, 383 (2 versions), 400, 413, 426, and 440 CI versions, plus the 426
'hemi' of the 60s - 70s. I've only seen 413 and 440 in truck/rv chassis, but the others may of chown up here and there.

Thanks. Looks sorta like a Travco, but no logo. Probably on the (missing) grill.

I think the coach ma be an early 60's Dodge - forerunner to Travco.

I think that it is an early Ray Frank motorhome. He started building motorhomes beginning in 1952 using a Dodge chassis in Brown City Michigan. The Frank motorhome evolved into the Dodge Motorhome and then in 1962 became the Travco motorhome. In the late 70's Travco was bought out by Foretravel

The one in your picture was not a Travco but likely was a Frank. At that time it may have been a 318 Dodge engine.

Emory, that is a B/RB engine. Look at the distributor mount, which is at the front passenger side of the engine. Both the 318 Polysphere and the 318
LA series Mopar engines mount the distributor upright nearly centered at the rear of the engine. The B/RB engines were made over the years in 350,
361, 383 (two different ones), 400, 413, 426, and 440 CI versions, plus the 426 'hemi' which is a somewhat modified RB. I've only ever seen the 413
and 440 fitted to RV chassis, though others may have been over the years. As Hupy pointed out, the 413 truck version had several heavy duty mods the
auto version didn't. Different cam drive, valve rotators, forged crankshaft. The RB was called the 'raised B' because the deck height of the casting
is higher - an inch I believe, although all the machining centers are the same on B and RB engines, which allowed the block castings to be machined on
the same transfer line - a substantial savings in capital spending.

It might be a 413 truck engine but the 440 didn't come out until 1964 I believe. That motorhome is probably older than that.

It is at least a 1958 or later, by the 4 headlights. Probably borrowed
from a car or truck of the same time frame. Just a guess on my part as to
year.

Looks like a cab from a fire truck (American LaFrance?) or maybe the same chassis as a pumper truck or tanker. After the cab is for someone more
knowledge than I to determine. Have to look at my old models to really check, but the front cab minus the visor reminds me of the fire truck chassis.

Yeah, the headlights look like off a Dodge pickup of the era. And the engine would make it about a '61, would it not? Unless they put 361CI B
engines in a few of them. A look at the numbers/ letters stamped on the distributor boss will tell. And it might be an engine swap. I can't find a
picture of one with those wheel cutouts though, although that may simply be a 'neck mod' someone did along the line. Somebody is gonna have to go
look at it. Jeremy??? :)

Emery, the 440CID RB was introduced in 1966, replacing the 426 CID wedge RB.
