Thanks Don,
It is my understanding the 455 & 403 are the only two oem engines in
the GMC coaches. Some people seem to get the 454 chevy and 455 olds
confused in discussion. The previous owner of My '73 insisted he had
a 454. To the best I can acertain, the engine is actually the original
455 which came in this coach. I'm now wondering if the 7k rag I'm
looking at now is a similar situation.
Just as matter of curosity,I do wonder if the 454 would indeed bolt up
directly though. Eventually, I plan to use a caddy 500, possibly stroked
to 530 depending upon how the pros & cons of stroking stack up. I'm in
hopes whatever is in the coach will serve acceptably until I get some
cosmetics and brake system work completed.
Plans at this point are nothing more than idle thoughts until I get my
hands on the ragged coach. I just don't want to spend an xtra 3k on the
purchase unnecessarily.
On the other systems, I won't know about the steering, brakes, etc.
until I get a closer look and actually drive it. I was located the coach
about 6 hours from my home, so it may be a few weeks before I get to
spend a little time with it. I was in a rush and it was storming when I
spotted her.
I'd like to develope a checklist of specifics to check. Possibly in an
order of cost or potential cost to bring it to showroom condition.
