As far as I know, the Onans that where installed in the GMC can not be
re-wired for 220 volts. But 6kw is more than enough to run a 1hp well pump.
I run a 2hp pump (160ft well, water at 90ft) with a 4kw Coleman generator.
You will need to find a step-up transformer to boost the Onan output
voltage from 110 to 220. One rated at 2kva should do the trick. If you are
going to run the pump continuously you may want to use an oversized
transformer so it will run cooler.
A new transformer will be fairly expensive but you should be able to find a
used one from a surplus industrial equipment company. If they have a bigger
one (rated higher than 2kva), you can still use it. Most of these
transformers can be wired in various combinations of 110/220/440 volts so
be sure the placard that shows the transformers winding details is still
intact.
