Hi Arch
Just got back from the ALBQ rally., I had to leave early.
The engine guy talking there said he would not recommend doing just a top
end job. He said, you put in all that money and then something goes wrong
with the bottom and you will have to do it all over again since you would
not put old heads back on a new lower end rebuild. Part of it is, as a re
builder , he would not do it because there would always be the finger
pointing if there was a warranty issue and there was a mix of old and new
rebuilds.
On my coach, when I bought it , the word was " just been rebuilt" when
prob. was just a top end job. Then 5,000 miles later I was burning 1 qt
every 150 miles and the problem was broken rings in 3 cyl. which destroyed
the block.
'
Might be cheaper in the long run to do the whole thing and block the oil
runs for more oil to #7 , block the manifold crossover (look for a crack in
the carb throats) , do the whole thing now while you are in there.
