Thanks to Eric Henning, I think we now have pictures of all of the possible
water pumps.... Take a look and make your choice.

One local GMCer, replaced his water pump with one of the open impeller
types, and now his fan clutch comes on all the time on flat land. Since he
has a new radiator and it did not do this before, he is going back to a
pump with a backing plate.

the original pump I removed from my 78 403 had the 4" cast impeller....the
one I got from ray Curtis was identical......works fine after 8k
miles.....that's all I know......
