I need to fabricate a water heater bracket to fit a second generation round
stainless steel water heater in my 1973 coach. This water heater design has
a single bolt at the rear of the heater, intended to bolt to a bracket. Can
anyone suggest where I could see diagram or picture of the bracket? It would
make it easier to fabricate if I could see how it was done in the original.
It's my understanding that this design was used in 1975-78 GMC finished
coaches.

The original bracket in my coach was discarded by the PO when they replaced
the original heater with a small electric-only unit.

Best regards,

I wish you had posted this about a month ago. I would have mailed one to you. I just cleaned out the garage and couldn't think of why anyone would
need it and had it recycled...

There is a drawing of the "HEATER - WATER (SECOND DESIGN) in the parts manual. It shows the bracket, which by the looks of it would not be that simple
to fabricate. You could make something simpler.

If you don't have the manual you can download it from a number of sources.

I've checked my parts manual but don't find a diagram of the second design water heater mounting bracket. Section 28.034J (page 28-34) shows the
second design water heater but not the mounting, and section 28.172D (page 28-206) shows the mounting bracket for the first design, but not the
second. Or perhaps I have missed something. The parts books I'm looking at are a printed version that came with my coach (78Z), and a PDF downloaded
through GMCMI.

The end caps are shown for the second design, but not how the angle iron on the bottom of the end caps attaches to the coach. I surmise that the
inboard attachment is by a angle iron leg that extends down to and is bolted to the coach floor (from page 28-206) and am guessing that the outboard
side must have a vertical strap bolted to the end of the angle iron supporting the end caps and then in turn is bolted to the coaches side framing
member. Does that seem right?
