The black tank is so shallow, you really need the extra water in there to get it to dump well.
If anything, you might consider a cassette toilet or composting toilet which avoids putting any black/soil into the tank altogether. This makes it a graywater tank in effect.
Usually the opposite happens. I have seen people with royales convert
To a single tank.
As far as tanks go, I think it is labor intensive to change much and risky. You do not want to find out later the change in plumbing you made does not work. There is not much for non-utilized space under a gmc, and with it so low to ground, the amount of “sewage flows downhill” space is limited as well as well.
I know a couple who have made awesome fiberglass/epoxy tanks
To increase capacity…. But that is so far out of my expetese and the amount of time they spent is not something I think I or most people could consider.
The tanks on a royale kind of stink (har, har). The gray water tank isn't NEARLY big enough, and the only thing that dumps (Har,Har) to the black water tank is the toilet. So, the gray water fills up way fast and the black water just sits there...but you can't dump the gray water without pulling the valve on the black water.
Having one combined tank with a macerater would be something I'd consider an upgrade.
I use a natures head composting toilet in my Avion that I can move into my travel van when I'm using it. Eliminates all the "black water" problems. and the wife likes it better so ,Win Win!
