I have no plans to remove the pump. I like the idea of the vacuum tank. It seems to not get any vacuum from the engine. The PO only put in the best of everything. Is not getting vacuum from the engine common?
When I went to get this GMC. There was no drought that it would make the 800-mile trip with no issues. I didn't even take one tool.

No, the engine should be the primary vacuum pump connected to the
reservoir; the electric pump should only be backup and set to rarely run
(maybe 18 in. Hg.). A check valve like that used at the vacuum brake
booster can be installed in the reservoir for the engine connection. I
prefer a used check valve from a junk yard to new ones, which I have had
leak. I've removed them from junk cars, obviously there for years, and
heard the still-stored vacuum dissipate as I pulled them out.
