I'm not sure why one would want to do a comparison between suppliers at this point. Jerry Work designed a propane conversion kit that you can order
from USCarbueration with a single part number providing all the major parts you'll need. I ordered and installed the 3/8 inch hose version which
provided adequate propane to power two air conditioners. I don't think you need to spend the extra $$ for the 1/2 inch hose kit. Combined with Gary
Bovee's Pertronix ignition upgrade kit my Onan works better than ever.

Jerry/Jack,

Thanks for your input and experience. I read through Jerry’s presentation and agree the conversion from UScarburation appears to be the way to go here. I thought the presentation was very detailed and easy to follow. The only addition I might make to the slides is a switch wiring diagram for dummies like me who are better following visual instructions. Jack, did you also install a second regulator in the propane compartment like Jerry?

Jerry or anyone familiar with this kit:

Do you know if it will work on the 4000 watt Onans as well? Concerned mostly with the diameter of the propane adapter at the carb... Would assume
the carb on the 4K is smaller? But don't have a 6K for comparison, so that's just a guess...

Neil,
I didn't install a second regulator. Jerry had a plan to be able to hook up outside propane appliances and, as I recall, that was part of the reason
he put in the second regulator. One regulator seems fine. A potential problem would be freezeup, but I haven't noticed any issues and I checked the
regulator after running the generator for a time. The other might be lack of capacity, but there really isn't much demand besides the generator.
Usually when I use the generator it's hot outside so freezeup isn't an issue and I'm not running the heater.

A couple of things to watch out for on your installation. First, the propane hose goes near the exhaust pipe so make sure it's routed properly.
Second, when the generator is pushed in, in my coach there's no space behind it and the rear wall, so make sure the propane hose doesn't get trapped
there. I found that routing it along with the power cables worked well.

Bringing this back to the top. Can anyone confirm the 4k and 6k onan carbs are the same diameter and will work with this kit?

Mark,
The kit was not designed for and will not fit the 4K Onan. The 4K is very compact and there just isn't enough space to mount the parts on the 4K.
I'm sure it's possible to convert a 4K, but you'd have to mount some parts off the generator. George Beckman did an Onan propane conversion and
mounted the fuel management system, as I recall, at the back of the battery area. Something like that could work.
