Hey everyone,
Just returned from first big shakedown trip. Palm Beach ran like a top, what
a view from those windows, and what a smooth ride.
Too early for the turning leaves, so rerouted to Hershey for some feel
better medicine(chocolate).
Noticed alt light on in one of the tunnels in Pa.
The alternator belt snapped and was lying on the crossmember. I had a spare
but didn't feel like messing with it , so ran the generator and used the
infamous statpower 40 to charge the engine battery when voltage got below
11.5 volts. The battery lasts a long time when it is only powering the
ignition.
I am just beginning to learn why the GMC has such a loyal following.
What a quality package gm built.
Was able to maintain 60mph on the steepest of grades on the Pa. turnpike
east of Harrisburg.
Priliminary fuel milage was 8.1 mpg. One potential problem was 500 miles per
quart of oil. Not a big deal but I thought a engine with 35,000 would not
use that much oil.
Spending quality time with the family in a gmc has been a highlight in my
life for the year. I am already starting to plan for the next trip.
