That is very interesting about the electric pump. The old timers have
always said the GMC's did this but they never had proof...... Nice job

>Well, its me again. Still rolling along just fine. I am in Chicago tonight.
>Will roll for Sheboygan on Sunday. I am up to almost 2200 miles on this
>shakedown cruise. All is well. I have used 1/2 pint of tranny fluid and 1 1/2
>quarts of oil. I think most of this is leaks. The tail pipe is too clean
to be
>burning much oil. I have seen a single drop of tranny fluid hanging off the
>pan at two stops. I have a leak around the front seal and maybe the rear
>seal on the engine. Also one on a valve cover.

>I mentioned the surging on long grades. Somebody said it might be starving
>for fuel. I thought I should be able to see that on my fuel/air meters. I
>left the
>electric fuel pump off today. Came to a long grade. Stepped on it real
>good---.
>When the secondaries kick in the meters go to rich and stay there. Sure
enough
>close to the top the meters went to normal then lean and the lady began
>to surge. Hit the pump----meters went rich and the surging stopped. It is
>neat when your toys confirm what you think might be wrong. Fan clutch

>The dash air is working much better. While sitting in Cedar Rapids I decided
>to see what I could do about that problem. The vacuum for the heater controls
>is also tied into the vacuum breaker in the air cleaner and the evap
canister.
>The evap canister had the greatest leak so I took it out of the vacuum
system.
>The AC now blows a lot more air. I once turned it down because it was cold
>in the cab. When I get home I am going to tie the heater controls into the
>brake booster side with the vacuum pump. An interesting side benefit from
>this was that the left bank of cylinders have always run a little leaner
than
>the
>right ones. Since the vacuum port that feeds this stuff is in a left runner I
>now know why. Oh well I am still having fun. See you all down the road
>somewhere. BTW saw a GMC west bound on I 80 today. I waved.
