Trans vent

How hard is it to pull the vent sleeve out of the trans vent,I'm getting a little blow back after start up and i want to put a fitting in it and divert the fluid away,Thanks Allan

G'day,

Ken Frey pulled the OEM vent out of Double Trouble with the trans installed, tapped the hole with 1/8 inch pipe tape and screwed in
a 90° fitting with a hose barb connection.

He coated the tap with grease to hold as much of the aluminum schwarf the tap cut out as possible and vacuumed the tapped hole when
he was finished.

If you look at the photo below you will note that any machining schwarf will fall into the chain area and be carried back to the
pan. In my opinion performing this operation will not produce enough to cause any problems. Ken installed the fitting in Double
Trouble in 2007 and to date the transmission works fine.

HOWEVER, be careful when tapping the hole not to screw the tap in too deep as you could break off the baffle under the vent.

Allen,
The location of the vent makes it sort of difficult to get at.
Pop off the cap then grasp the steel fitting the best you can with a new
vice grip and pry it with a larger screwdriver and pop it out.
If you get our vent unit , grab it with a vie grip and use a hammer onto a
large screwdriver and tap it down into the hole.
You'll need to do trial and error to get it done as the fire wall does get
in the way.
