Shawn,
I went thru this very thing this spring. The parking pawl would not
engage the trans. in park. (roll-away!)
I could not get enough adj. on the rod at the trans. What I had to do
was take the rod off and drill a second hole in the flat section of the
rod to gain adj.
The area where the bracket that is part of the shift rod (into the
trans.) is prone to breaking off. The bracket is welded on again, but
not quite correct. This explains some of the loss of adjustment on the
rod.
The seal behind the shift rod (going into the trans) is prone to
leaking. Mine leaked all winter and was down a quart in the spring due
to converter leak-down.
When I topped it up in the spring it has not leaked since in use. Both
seal and shift shaft fixes need an entire trans. tear-down to repair.
Put with the small leak if present.
My shift lever is out a bit on the steering column. I can live with
that.
Regards, Gil
